Pike Place Market in Seattle
Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay Waterfront. It is located in downtown Seattle. Opened in August 17, 1907, it was initially a "Farmer's Market" catering to the Seattle's residence and those working in downtown Seattle.

As this market is within walking distance from downtown Seattle, it has also attracted a fair amount of visiting tourists.

This market is a place for small businesses with stalls selling fishes around the region (including salmon), home made crafts and other items like dungeness crabs, fresh flowers, fruits of the seasons, honey, etc.

Within walking distance from this market are the shopping areas, fine restaurants including buffet seafood lunch/dinner, boat trips from the waterfront, "Duck Tour", the Space Needle area, fine coffee cafes, the Aquarium, etc. The first Starbuck Coffee Store is located along a row of shop houses adjacent to the Pike Place Market.

In summer, 2007, Pike Place Market celebrated its 100 years. One of the things the organiser did is to place "pig" icons all over the downtown district including inside some shopping centers and restaurants.
